Kirk Herbstreit addressed the Miami Hurricanes on ESPN College Game Day and it bares repeating. guess football doesn matter. It matters to the alums, the brotherhood of the U, but I don know if it matters to the people making the decisions at Miami. If they don't change that, it doesn matter who the coach is.ulio Frenk heard the challenge and initiated the change. He promoted two change agents who were entrusted in symbolically rebranding and rekindling the flame that was once known as the U. Senior Advisor Joe Echevarria and Chief of Staff Rudy Fernandez were now called upon to shake up the status quo. Fernandez currently serves as Senior Vice President for Public Affairs and Communications at the University of Miami and is no stranger to politics. He spent over a decade in Washington DC and was a Special Assistant to the President in the George W. Bush White House. The qualifications Fernandez amassed certainly vetted him professionally. There is no doubt his past accomplishments rightfully gave him access to sit in close proximity and give University President Frenk trusted advice. That advice would ultimately shape the athletic program for years to come. But there is something that you need to realize about Fernandez. There is something you need to consider in terms of a core center piece to the whole process. Fernandez is a fan of the football program. A huge one. Recently I had the pleasure to interview Senior Vice President Fernandez on the Orange Bowl Boys podcast. It was an unadulterated no holds barred interview that was candid and honest. Fernandez handled every question like a pro and that is because he is one.But behind the veil of stature and importance the biggest take away for me is that he has a heart that bleeds orange and green and that isn just lip service. Have you ever been that upset after a Hurricane loss that your family knows to just leave you alone and let you have a moment? That is Fernandez. Here is some excerpts from the close to an hour long interview with the primary architect of the University restructuring Mark Pope Jersey. He is unapologetically steadfast that this is a business and in order to achieve ultimate success, you surround yourself with successful people. Scoop- f we go 6-0 to finish this season and don lose to FSU does all of this still happen?F- ou know I learned a long time ago in the world of politics never to answer hypotheticals. We did not go 6-0. You will see the honesty in my eyes. We like Manny Diaz a lot at the administration level and I know the fanbase turned on him but we liked him a lot. He did a lot of great things. He recruited some kids that played hard for him throughout. But I am unapologetic trying to improve the University of Miami https://www.mhoutletstore.com/Josh_Neely_Jersey-59. The one thing that was my north star throughout the last couple months, the only goal is to improve the University of Miami. What in the best interest of the University of Miami. What in the best interest of our football players. And those kids come here wanting to compete for championships. And if we have an opportunity to hire a unique talent like Mario Cristobal, then we owe it to those kids to do so. We've all been asking the question. What if we beat FSU and finished 6-0...We still have Mario Rad today? Toast- here is a debate among the fanbase about what we should do about the number 26. Should 26 be retired or should it be a tribute number that is earned by an upperclassman. Do you have any feelings on Sean Taylor number 26?F- ou got to retire number 26 and I am going to me a major proponent of that. I will be leading that charge and I think we should retire 26.e got to ask Rudy Fernandez everything. Even his thoughts as a fan on what the program should do with #26. Toast- s a cane fan, do you have a time table for when you would like to see us make the playoffs?F- In order for this investment to pay off in my mind Brevin Jordan Jersey, we should be a playoff team within the next three to five years. And my view is as a fan, Mario may say Rudy doesn know the first thing what it takes to get a team prepared for this and he would be right. But as a fan I think we aught to be winning the coastal more often then not. Not once in 16 years. Five, six, seven times every decade that what I expect as a fan. I am sure I will get an email from Mario saying shut the hell up.he changes have been made. Mario and Rad are in place. As a fan, when do you expect us to make the CFP? Yup, asked him that...and he ANSWERED IT! Roman- You brought up the Orange Bowl and there is a faction of fans that are talking about a potential new home. And Raddy (New Miami Athletic Director Dan Radakovich) mentioned it too about maybe exploring those options. Is that a real possibility on your end? know there is a lot of people talking about it externally and no one has talked to anyone in the administration about it yet https://www.mhoutletstore.com/Deshawn_Troutman_Jersey-110. If they approached us obviously, I owe it to the University of Miami to always entertain options that I feel will improve the standing of the university or the football program. We have eleven years left on the lease at Hard Rock. I think Hard Rock is a great facility to play in. And one of you made a point on your show that I agree with which is, in thinking about stadium locations would it be better to be closer to the campus? Sure. But you have to think about the fact we draw fans from all over South Florida not just from Coral Gables or south Miami. We need to take that in account an be very very careful about that decision.ots of stadium talk this evening. Lots of stadium talk last couple weeks. We asked Rudy what his feelings were on a new stadium closer to campus. Catch the full interview entitled udy the Wolf for a candid and full behind the scenes view of the program moving forward. For me personally, I walked away with the firm belief that the program is in great hands. Let me know if you agree.THE. SECRET. IS. OUT. Well, well, well, the predictions were true.It was another great week for the academies in basketball, as they combined to go 5-0. Navy and its defense dominated two local opponents, as Air Force and Army squeezed by theirs.Sadly, that won happen again as Army and Air Force will face off for the Silver Star on Saturday in Colorado Springs. The game will be nationally televised on Stadium, as both teams look to continue their winning ways.Outside of that, it is a light schedule for the academies as Army and Navy each a play a game apiece.I guess we could settle for a 3-1 recordResultsWednesday:Navy 89, Washington College (MD) 40Air Force 66, Denver 65Saturday:Army 65, Marist 61Navy 67, Mount St.Mary 40Air Force 59, Idaho State 48This WeekTuesday:Siena vs Army - 7 p.m. (ESPN+)Wednesday:William Mary vs Navy - 7 p.m. (ESPN+)Saturday:Army vs Air Force - 4 p.m. (Stadium)NavyThe Midshipmen defense put on a clinic yet again, holding their opponents to a total of 40 points in both games this past week.oming in after the weekend, we really defended down there, we really defended Radford, Navy head coach Ed DeChellis said after the game. really trying to build this team from a defense rebounding side up because some nights offensively the ball doesn go in the basket for you.hat was shown as Navy held Washington College to 28% from the field, tallying 28 defensive rebounds, and allowing the Shoremen to only hit four shots in the first half on Wednesday. The puzzle pieces didn fall into place effortlessly for Willie Bloomquist after the program incumbent hitting and pitching coaches left for SEC jobs. Nevertheless, the first-time collegiate coach introduced his first full coaching staff on Monday. He commented on what he looked for in the hirings of Sam Peraza, Mike Goff, Bill Mueller and Travis Buck. rust, first and foremost. Commitment to the program. Wanting to be here. Those things are very important to me, Bloomquist said. ommunication and experience. Knowing all that together, what going to be best for developing these young men that are here and giving them the best opportunity for us as a program to win Not only that but to develop them to the point that when they are finished with Arizona State that theye able to go on and play after here if that what they choose to do https://www.assdoutlet.com/Tommi_Hill_Jersey-135...ut I think when you look at this entirety of the coaching staff with the experience that we have not only at the collegiate level but also the professional level and playing at the highest level and coaching at the highest level, the young men that are coming in here are going to get better. Theye going to learn how to play the game the right way and be taught properly and to me that a big selling point of our program.loomquist will lean on Sam Peraza, who will be coming with the most experience at the collegiate level as a coach, as the program new pitching coach and recruiting coordinator. The former San Diego State associate head coach and pitching coach brings nearly a decade of coaching experience at the Division I. Peraza hands will be full as well as recruiting coordinator. Bloomquist mentioned that the 2021 MLB Draft where five Arizona State Sun Devils and four signees were selected have opened some unexpected holes in the future plans. However, Peraza has a plan and a lot of it has to do with winning over the hometown kids. e need to get the right guy. We need to take our time, evaluate the right way, Pearza said. nd we need to win the Valley. That an important part...I want to talk to all the high school coaches, all the travel ball coaches here in our Valley and make sure we win our backyard. Travis Buck also brings recent collegiate coaching experience from his time at Boise State, a quality that is lacking from the resumes of most of the staff. Buck will serve as a volunteer assistant and help the program because similar to Bloomquist he wants to see it return to its former prominence. hat a part that really excited me coming down here...Having them lean on and geting my thoughts on things, there value into the things I bring, Buck said. was thrown into the fire and build a program (Boise State) from the ground up.ike Goff and Bill Mueller come into Arizona State with a ton of MLB experience. Goff will handle a lot including infield and outfield duties. Mueller, the former batting champ, will be the hitting coach and work with a lot of returnees at the plate. Goff mentioned the interesting point that unlike the professional league https://www.assdoutlet.com/Dylan_Devito_Jersey-83, he excited that he gets to be a part of picking the players. He also wants to use his experience at the big league level to help prepare the players for that level of play and the rind that comes with it.ou have to still prepare these kids for when they go to the next level of what theye getting into. Most college kids have no idea when they get to the professional baseball, there no longer time constraints to how long they can practice...Our job is to teach them to grind...It going to be intense Ryan Morgan Jersey, it going to be difficult. Mueller gets to work with a group of position players that were a part of one of the youngest cores from college baseball last season. As Goff also mentioned, Mueller wants to not rely heavily on the long ball and scrap runs together if need be. here a lot of talent here with the offense, Mueller said. t a matter of maintaining, building and progressing the offense. We want to be very well-round player on offense...Tt not going to be just waiting for that three-run homer. In any situation wel be able to complete and be unselfish as possible. While Mueller won have his hand on recruiting Arizona State Sun Devils College Jerseys for Kids, he knows that the history of the program can recruit itself, but it all starts with winning. t Arizona State. It almost like youe part of a big league team. Mueller said. his is a special place with the history. It a place you want to play...As far as you get someone here, that starts with (wins). It a big part of a new movement. Along with the reputation, when you get wins to connect with that itl hopefully be a destination higher on people list. The coaches brought on to work with Bloomquist had a lot of good things to say about their new boss. For Goff, who worked with Bloomquist as a player when he came through the Seattle Mariners organization spoke to having a renewed fire for his position after 35 years of coaching experience Kyle Breed Jersey. ee always remained very close. Getting this opportunity to comeback with him and see him get this program back to where it belongs is a true honor, Goff said. he tables were turning, now he going to be the boss...I feel like I have a new lease on life right now being able to do this again. Buck met Bloomquist back on his recruiting trip when he came to Arizona State. Once he heard that Bloomquist was taking over the program he just wanted to be a part of it. didn care what my title is, I don know what it is, but just being a part of the tradition and coming back home, Buck said. jumped at the bit and come down here as soon as possible.or fans, the words Peraza spoke about Bloomquist probably mean the most as he tries to return Arizona State baseball back toward where the faithful wishes it to be. He told a story about seeing Bloomquist and the staff talk to a recent signee. earing coach Bloomquist and the entire staff speak to him about their experiences at ASU and the vision they have for the program, it gave me chills, Peraza said. t got me fired up, I was ready to go out there and I wanted to put the uniform on right there myself. Well, the Deacs didn do so great this weekend. Wake first conference loss of the season was a pretty ugly beat down by the Clemson Tigers on the road in South Carolina. Wake will have to bounce back quickly, as next week game against Boston College will be for the Atlantic Division crown. As always, it time to completely overreact to everything we saw in the Wake game and the rest of college football this weekend. Please keep in mind that these are just the opinions of a fan who doesn really know that much about the sport of football and likes to complain. The Deacs aren on that level, yet. Wake Forest is having an unbelievably great season. The Deacs were a top 10 team in the playoff rankings and were undefeated in the conference heading into Saturday https://www.wfddoutlet.com/At_Perry_Jersey-105. There is a difference, however, in having a great season and being a football powerhouse. Wake just isn yet to the level where they can waltz into some big time football program houseike Clemsonnd play an average game and come out with a win. Clemson isn the same behemoth as they have been in the last few years, but they are still Clemsonn 8-3 team with 10 5-star and 40 4-star players on the current roster. Recruiting rankings aren the end all be all of talent, but on the road, it was going to take perfect preparation, perfect execution, and a probably some luck to win this game. Wake simply does not have the talent to overcome a 10 yard quarter and 2 turnovers inside their own 20 yard line against a team like Clemson. Not yet, anyways. The Deacs may be the worst tackling team in the nation. The defense cannot tackle anyone. One of the reason the Deacs have given up 300+ rushing yards in 4 of their last 6 games is because they simply cannot bring down the ball carrier when they have the chance. I don play football and I obviously have no idea the best way to go about tackling someone running full speed right at me, but often times it seems Wake just runs into guys with their shoulders and hopes they fall down. That works fine against teams like Duke or Old Dominion, but bigger 4 and 5 star playersike DJ Uiagalelei or Will Shipleyre just going to bounce right off of that hit and keep right on running https://www.wfddoutlet.com/Nasir_Greer_Jersey-46. I really don know whose fault that is or how to go about fixing it, but it is a problem.Quinton Cooley will be the next great Wake Forest running back. Assuming he doesn transfer due to lack of playing time, Quinton Cooley is going to be good. I know he only had 8 carries for 39 yards against Clemson, but he definitely looked like the best running back on the team on Saturday. The fact that 7-3 Clemson wasn ranked is kind of silly. I don know if the committee is mad at Dabo or something, but Clemson is easily a top 25 team. The Tigers only had 3 losses, 1 being to the best team in the nation and the other 2 being to top 25 teams. That pretty similar to Wisconsin, who is sitting at #15. I don know how a 6-4 Mississippi State team is better than Clemson Ian Driscoll Jersey. I now more worried about the coaching carousel. Sure, the Deacs aren going to the playoff, but it seems like everyday, another power 5 job is opening up. I wouldn be shocked if by the end of the week Texas was looking for a new coach. Do I think Clawson is going to be offered a job at Florida or LSU or USC? No. Do I think he would take a job at VT? Absolutely not. But the blue blood programs are going to have to get coaches from somewhere, and that leaves coaching vacancies in the tier below, and that is what worries me. Personally, my absolute worst case scenario is someone offers Brian Kelly a ridiculous offer that he can refuse, and suddenly the Notre Dame job is open. Whether it reasonable or not, I will be nervous for the entire offseason. Those are my takes from Week 11 of the college football season. Feel free to leave some of yours below. The Wisconsin Badgers men basketball team improved to 9-2 overall (1-1 in the Big Ten) on Wednesday night following a narrow win over Nicholls State. The Badgers entered the game as the overwhelming favorites but had to engineer a second-half comeback to secure the win and avoid embarrassment. That was TOOOOOOOO close. The Badgers narrowly take down Nicholls State 71-68 at the Kohl Center.Brad Davison led the team with 19 points before fouling out late.Let dive into a trio of quick takeaways from the non-conference victory. Three things that stood out:No. 1: DefenseThe defensive effort from the Badgers in the first half was pathetic. Nicholls State was able to drive to the basket at will against Wisconsin and shot a balmy 57% from the floor. The Badgers were unable to stay in front of the Nicholls guards, and there was no help defensive to speak of. For a team that relied on defensive intensity (and Johnny Davis) to carry them the first 10 games of the season, the first half was as poor of a showing imaginable defensively Jack Sanborn Jersey.Early in the second half, it was more of the same, but the defensive effort gradually improved for the Badgers. Wisconsin did a much better job of contesting Nicholls in the lane, and as a result, the Colonels struggled to score in the second half for long stretches https://www.wboutletstore.com/Kayden_Lyles_Jersey-133. Wisconsin has had defensive lapses this season at times, but the first half of the Nicholls State game was by far their worst showing. The rotations and help defense were not as crisp as usual. Luckily the Badgers have two more tune-up games before Big Ten play fires back up once the calendar year turns over because they have plenty to clean up defensively.Greg Gard opening statement in post game No. 2: No Johnny DavisWithout Davis to turn to offensively, the rest of the roster looked lost in the first half. Players were more hesitant with the basketball, and outside of Brad Davison eight points in the first half, the rest of the squad shot only 33%. The ball movement was lacking and the group did not seem to be in rhythm during the first half. Overall Davison led the team with 19 points, and the team shot markedly better in the second half, but Johnny Davis mentioned the need for a third scoring option to emerge following the Ohio State loss. I don think the Badgers found any answers in terms of another scoring threat, as the game further proved how important Davis is to the team. Starting center Steven Crowl, specifically, had a tough game, as he was once again outplayed by reserve Chris Vogt. How the center minutes continue to be dispersed over the next few weeks will be something to monitor. In addition to Vogt, one other player that had a solid game was Jahcobi Neath https://www.wboutletstore.com/Noah_Burks_Jersey-34. Now healthy, he could be a player that takes on a larger role situationally behind Davison and Davis. Neath finished the game with nine points and seven rebounds on 50% shooting. Brad Davison on the team playing short-handed No. 3: EnergyNicholls State took it to the Badgers in the first half. The Colonels played with enthusiasm and energy that was not matched by Wisconsin. Seemingly every loose ball went to the away team and their bench was up clapping and chanting in excitement. The Badgers did not come out with a ton of energy, and Nicholls seemed to feed off of a quick start. In the second half, the Kohl Center was engaged and tried to will the Badgers back into it early. A pair of crucial buckets by Vogt brought the crowd, and team, back to life in the second half though as the Badgers grabbed a lead with 12 minutes remaining and never looked back.Wisconsin will need to figure out how to avoid slow starts against inferior opponents the next two weeks however with Morgan State and Illinois State both coming to town for non-conference games. Playing down to competition, regardless of the situation can lead to disaster for young teams. Chris Vogt on the second half Up next: The Badgers will be back at the Kohl Center next Thursday, December 23 vs. Morgan State. https://www.wboutletstore.com/Danny_Davis_Iii_Jersey-74 https://www.wboutletstore.com/Chase_Wolf_Jersey-13
